If you’re traveling with a group, you might be able to save money by hiring a private vessel.

Then, a 5-8 day (usually) cruise embarks, eventually returning to the island, from which you depart and fly back to your destination. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this kind of travel. First of all, you get to skip over Drakes Passage, a rough area that makes many people extremely seasick. On the other hand, these kinds of trips do cost more. Fly-in Antarctica holidays cost more than normal cruises, and are often delayed by a day or more because of weather conditions. Cruises are rarely delayed, if ever, and are more affordable.
